We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for Depew High School seniors enrolled in French 5 and Spanish 5. This year, we would like to offer those students an opportunity to earn the New York State Seal of Biliteracy.
Since 2012, New York State has awarded the Seal of Biliteracy to high-achieving students who have dedicated themselves to learning different languages and who have attained a high proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Students who earn the Seal will be recognized at our DHS Graduation Ceremony.
The Seal acknowledges the importance of being bilingual in today’s global society. The Seal will be attached to diplomas and transcripts of graduates who excel in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in multiple languages. Acknowledging those students who have pushed themselves to do their very best and learn another language will provide them with an advantage regarding future academic institutions and employers. The purpose of the Seal is to increase the prospect of a student’s educational success and employment. There is no fee for this recognition.
Students will discuss the academic requirements and pathways to the Seal with their English and World Language (French or Spanish) teachers. Find more information here.
