Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame Inducts
Former Green Bay Quarterback and Depew Graduate

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback and Depew graduate, Don Majkowski, was inducted into the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.  Majkowski joined his high school football coach, the late Frank Constantino (Induction Class of 1991) into the Hall.  "I want to share this honor with my former teammates and family, I am very proud to represent Depew High School," said Majkowski. "This is an incredible honor that Buffalo thinks enough of me being a hometown kid to induct me."

Majkowski was a multiple sport standout at Depew earning 13 letters - four each in football, basketball and baseball and one in track.  As a junior cornerback in football, he led the Wildcats to the Section VI Class B final at Rich Stadium. His eight interceptions that season were a school record. His senior year was a frustrating one as he watched the first five games from the sidelines with a broken hand. Majkowski cherished his relationship with Constantino. He said he spent every study hall in Constantino's office watching film and talking.

As Majkowski headed off to college, he played one season at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy where he led his team to an 8-0-1 record and was voted MVP in both football and basketball. He transferred to the University of Virginia in 1983 and graduated as the school's all-time leader in passing yards with 3,901 and total offense at 4,632. He was inducted into the Fork Union Hall of Fame in 1990.

A 10th round draft choice of the Green Bay Packers in 1987, Majkowski was the first rookie in Packer history to throw for 300 yards in one game. It took only two years before he led the NFL in single-season passing yards with 4,318 and was runner-up to Joe Montana for league MVP honors.

He played six years with the Packers, starting 49 games, as well as two years each with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions. He was named All-Pro with the Packers in 1989. He earned the nickname, Majik, for his penchant for late-game victories.  Majkowski battled numerous injuries but still managed to play 10 years in the NFL. He was named to the Pro Bowl and All-Madden Team and held several passing records with the Packers until he was replaced in the lineup by Brett Favre.  Majkowski was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 2005.

Currently Majkowski lives with his wife, Kelly, and their two children, Danielle, 11, and Bo, 10, in suburban Atlanta. He owns his own real estate company. He had been working as an analyst and commentator for the Packers but gave that up to coach his son in little league football. "So many of my friends were NFL analysts and on weekends, you're gone. They don't see their kids. I just couldn't do that," he said. "That was an easy decision."
